Pass rates are for the 12 months to March 2026. The typical wait is for September 2026: half of learners waited longer between booking and taking their test, half waited less.
How we worked this out
Pass rates come from DVSA's statistics for practical car tests at each test centre, for the 12 months to March 2026 (DVSA counts years from April to March and calls this one 2025-26). A pass rate is the tests passed divided by the tests taken. DVSA publishes tests in automatic cars on their own, so a centre's manual pass rate is the rest: all its tests less the automatic ones. We only split them where a centre ran at least 100 of each. On a centre's page, "Place" counts from the highest pass rate among centres that ran 500 or more tests that year, and "Great Britain" is the overall pass rate. Centres that ran fewer than 500 tests rest on too few results to compare fairly, so they have no place in the rankings.
Waiting times come from DVSA's monthly table of test availability at each centre, for September 2026, published 14 October 2026. The typical wait is DVSA's median: half of that month's learners waited longer between booking and taking their test, and half less. A trend compares the average of the last 12 months with the 12 before. A centre's chart averages each calendar year over the months DVSA has figures for; tests were stopped for parts of 2020 and 2021 during the pandemic.
Driving times between centres are by road, worked out with OpenRouteService from OpenStreetMap, without traffic. "Nearby" means within half an hour's drive. A dash in a table means DVSA has no figure or, for manual and automatic, fewer than 100 tests of that kind.
Northern Ireland isn't included: its tests are run by a different agency, the DVA.
